Implementation Patterns by Kent Beck
Well I’m back on java for the time being. So in order to get better at java I picked up Kent Beck’s new book. It’s kind of thin for $39. But it reads well so far. I’ll go over the implementation patterns when I get some time.

What Application to Write?
You really have to write Ruby to learn it. What should I write? I am thinking of a digg site or a shopping cart. Either one will help me learn Ruby on Rails. I did buy a new book called Build Your Own Ruby on Rails Web Application which shows you how to build a digg site. So I guess its the shopping cart.

I found this site so. Sounds interesting and maybe a couple of more tutorials I can do.
On to the next book
Finished the Programming Ruby and Rails for Java Developers Books. Finished a couple of tutorials and I am ready for the next book. Everyday Scripting with Ruby. I think it will be good to get some more examples of Ruby programming before I go to Rails.
Ruby Tutorial: Learning Ruby - Best Ruby Guide,... →
I decided to try and do both. I finished the Programming Ruby book. This book explains the language of Ruby. I’m Almost finished with the Rails for Java developers. I will do this tutorial today then start working on some Java stuff later. I got 2 interviews for Java next week so I need to brush up on Java some. Hopefully I can do both without getting confused.
Go Forwards or Backwards?
I have to start looking for a job. I was hoping to finish learning Ruby by this time. So do I go forwards or go backwards? Do I keep on pushing to learn Ruby or do I go back to Java. I know I can get a job doing Java, but I haven’t done Java in 3 months and I feel that I am losing Java. I either pick up Java again or forget it and continue with Ruby.

For those of you learning Java
I will list the books that I consider the best for learning Java.
Deep into Ruby
Well I am deep into Ruby now. I started reading all the books at the same time. Here’s my early review of the books and my tactics for learning Ruby. Programming Ruby is all about the ruby language. Somewhat like reading a manual but easier on the boredom. What it does teach you is the language. I don’t think its enough for me to learn ruby from. Learning language semantics does...

I Think this is my answer. I will do this to keep up with Java.
Don't forget what I know
I have not done any programming for over 2 months now. Starting in April I will have to get a job. So now what? I want to learn Ruby, but at the same time not forget Java. I will go full time learning Ruby and figure out someway not to forget Java.

Starting Something New
Nothing gets the passion back like something new. So starting today I am going to learn a new programming language. There is so buzz about Ruby so I will start there. I will take the next month to learn Ruby. First reading, then writing and then a new project to pull things together. Something I learned before there is no way to really learn a language by reading a book. You have to have a...

The Passion
The last few years I lost it. The passion. I love programming. I could do that night and day, but something is missing. When I did mainframe programming I knew everything, COBOL, IMS DB/DC, DB2, JCL and DYL280. Things were fun the projects were challenging and I knew so much that things were so much fun. Then I started Java after about 20 years of COBOL. I had to teach myself, no training...
What now?
After what happened I decided the way to go would be working for a small company. Surely a small company could not outsource their work. Well after working for a company of less than 20 employees the unexpected happened. It never crossed my mind that their biggest client could outsource their work to India. Never crossed my mind. So here I am again out of work and wondering what could happen...

How it all Started
Let me explain what led me this way. I am a computer programmer. I have been programming for about 25 years, first in COBOL and now in Java. The jobs has been good for so long, but now things are changing. The changes started about 4 years ago. I worked for a large health care company and times seemed good for programmers. One day the Director of IT starting walking down the halls and calling...
