The Passion
The last few years I lost it. The passion. I love programming. I could do that night and day, but something is missing. When I did mainframe programming I knew everything, COBOL, IMS DB/DC, DB2, JCL and DYL280. Things were fun the projects were challenging and I knew so much that things were so much fun. Then I started Java after about 20 years of COBOL. I had to teach myself, no training from the company I was working for. I read so many books and things were so stressful. No training 6 months to learn, design and program in a language I never used before. Not only Java but this was a web application and I have no clue what HTML or JSP is. I remember working from October 14 to January 04 10 hours days with no days off. I made the line and the VP of IT got his bid bonus for that project. And the large health care company did not say anything to me. No time off, no comp time, no thank you. Nothing. That’s when it started to lose the passion.
